Using and Removing Meta AI on Facebook

Meta AI offers a new way to search and interact with information directly within Facebook. Here's a guide on how to use it and, if you prefer, switch back to the original search bar.

Using Meta AI:

  1. Access the Search Bar: Locate the search bar at the top of your Facebook homepage. You might see the prompt "Ask Meta AI anything" instead of the usual blank field.
  2. Interact with Meta AI: Start typing your search query. Meta AI will suggest results as you go, with blue circles indicating options that activate the AI chat window.
  3. Explore Features: Clicking a blue circle opens a chat window with Meta AI. Here you can ask follow-up questions, have Meta AI generate creative text formats like poems or code, or even request images based on your description.

Switching Back to the Original Search Bar:

While Meta AI offers new functionalities, you might prefer the original search experience. Here's how to switch back:

Unfortunately, there's no built-in option to disable Meta AI within Facebook itself at this time. However, there are a couple of workarounds:

  1. Phrasing Your Searches: When using the search bar, avoid starting your queries with phrases that trigger Meta AI, like "what is" or "how to." Instead, focus on keywords related to your search.
  2. Using Facebook Lite: Consider using Facebook Lite, a simplified version of the app that currently doesn't include Meta AI integration.

Additional Tips:

  • Meta AI is still under development, so functionalities might change over time. Keep an eye on Facebook announcements for updates.
  • You can access Meta AI outside of Facebook through the dedicated website https://ai.meta.com/genai/, although logging into Facebook unlocks additional features.
